15 easy travel journal ideas when you do not know what to write

You do not need neat handwriting, drawing skills or a box of craft supplies. Start with one photo, one small paper object and two honest sentences.

The easiest page formula

1. One photo

Choose the image that brings back a feeling, not necessarily the prettiest one.

2. One object

Add a ticket, receipt, label, pressed leaf or a small piece of a paper map.

3. Two sentences

Write what happened, then one sensory detail the picture cannot show.

What can go in a travel journal?

Boarding passes and museum tickets are obvious, but the most personal pages often use ordinary scraps: a bakery bag logo, a transit card sleeve, a tea wrapper, a hotel note, a market sticker, a quick sketch of the route or the colour strip from a photo booth. Photograph anything bulky before recycling it.

Do not try to document every day

Choose three to five anchor moments from a short trip. A finished twelve-page journal holds more value than an ambitious blank book. Leave space and come back after the trip, when you know which moments stayed with you.
